The Alamosa Parks and Recreation department is excited to offer a NEW track and field program for youth this summer. This program is for boys and girls ages 5 to 16 (age as of 12/31/21). Conditioning, proper fundamentals of running, field event techniques, and team involvement will be instructed. Our program is structured for all skill levels, benefiting kids who are just starting in track and field to those who have been participating for years.
The Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) track program is Colorado's Premier Recreational Track Program. This year, the program will only involve regional agencies in southern Colorado- Pueblo, Canon City, and Widefield. Meets are scheduled for July, with 1-2 practices weekly beginning in late-June. Participants are not required to attend each meet, but must provide their own travel and/or accommodations.
Rules and event information will be announced shortly, but participants can expect a similar format to the All-Valley Track Meet in terms of event offerings. Participants will be placed in heats by gender and age. All participants get a ribbon for each heat. Participants can try different events each week or just stick with their favorites.
